Sorry about the gap between entries but I have had a lot of Internet trouble and since my return to Australia things have been hectic to say the least, but finally we have had some nice weather welcome us in victoria and the real season is about to kick off!!!!
Since returning to Australia, I have been carrying a bug which just wont bugger off, I seem to be on the end of it now but that’s 5 weeks now that it has stuck around.
First up after my return was the Macedon Teams Race, in Victoria. Once again I had a great group of guys to work with and this was my 4th teams race in two years, in what is a new style of racing in Australia. Having been part of the winning team the other three times I was wanting to make it 4 from 4. Even if I was breathing out of half a lung.
The race started out really fast, but I knew this circuit well, and I knew the break wouldn’t go until about the 10km mark of the race, which it did, I was a part of the initial break, but along with another rider I hit across on the main hill of the day to make junction with a group of 6, making us 8. More importantly Leigh Howard had been there already so we now had 2 VIS riders which almost guaranteed teams race victory.
Its always nice to know you have the likes of Glen O’Shea sitting in the bunch to back you up.
It was a generally easy race in front but after 100kms and with a heart average of the day of 169, the legs started to go, most unfortunate part is that this is when the race begins, Leigh had terrific legs today so I told him he had to go for it and that i was no good today but would hold on for the life of me to secure the team victory today.
It all went to plan beautifully with glen O’Shea catching myself and Tim Decker metres from the line. Great team ride and now four from four, looking forward to a much harder task at Midlands Tour where the VIS may potentially be under-manned.
Results of this race can be found on this great website [thanks pat
