Last Friday was our annual Teams night which saw riders allocated in one of six teams that they would earn points for throughout the night. The team’s point-score after round 4 determined which position they would ride off for in the final round. The final round was the infamous Italian Pursuit where the top two teams rode off to determine the Teams night champions.

Evans & Rogers go 1-2 in Olympics TT Trial

2008 Tour de France runner up, Cadel Evans, and three-time individual time trial world champion Michael Rogers finished first and second on the in the time trial stage of the Good Luck Beijing official road cycling test event. Evans clocked a winning time of 32′28.92″ for the 23.65km course to finish 24.74″ clear of Rogers (32′53.66″) while third placed Alexandr Dyachenko of Kazakhstan rode 33′27.52″.

The time trial circuit covers a section of the road race course and includes a 10km climb straight out of the starting gate followed by a 10km descent all raced along the stunning backdrop of the Juyongguan and Badaling sections of the Great Wall of China.

Evans & Rogers race over Olympic course

Hkg6982972008 Tour de France runner up Cadel Evans and three time  individual time trial World Champion Michael Rogers expect the road race at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing to be one of the toughest ever.

Their  prediction comes after the Australian pair completed the 174 kilometre road race as part of the Good Luck Beijing test event series.

The race was won by Italian Gabriele Bosisio in a time of 4h27m14s with Evans crossing in fifth place 47 seconds behind. Rogers was 9m55s off the winning time in 17th with 34 of the 88 starters failing to finish.

Results: Australian Cycling Grand Prix, Day 2, Vic (TC)

Racing in the best form of his life, NSW cyclist Peter McDonald claimed the second annual Australian Cycling Grand Prix Criterium in Ballarat today, enhancing his claims to win this year’s Timbercorp Cup National Series.

McDonald (28) was by far the most aggressive and impressive rider in the 33 km criterium, which was held in typical Victorian weather conditions… four seasons in a short space of time.

“I certainly can’t complain about the form I’m in and it’s really satisfying to finally get a win,” McDonald said.

Results: Burra Classic, Day 1, SA (Hcp)

Brief results & report.

Russell Gill of the CSC Team O’Grady development team has taken out the opening days handicap in Burra. Gill recorded the fastest time in the race after beating fellow sprinter Chris Luxton in the finish. In doing so, Gill took home the $1600 prize money that was on offer for first place.

Good Sports Hunter New England Launch

It was with great pleasure that the Australian Drug Foundation announces the launch of Good Sports in the Hunter New England region of NSW in partnership with Hunter New England Health and it’s ‘Good for kids. Good for life’ project. This is an exciting development for Good Sports and it will provide access to Good Sports for many community sports clubs across the region and also enable us to continue developing the program in NSW.

Bicycle Motocross Australia (BMXA) is seeking applications from people interested in taking on the role of Freestyle BMX Coordinator.

The Freestyle BMX Coordinator is a nationally focussed position that will play a leading administrative role in the development of freestyle BMX incorporating event delivery, development initiatives, communication, marketing, promotion and member servicing. It will involve some inter-state travel and non-standard hours of work.

This is a full-time position based in the Cycling Australia office in Bass Hill (Sydney), NSW. The successful applicant will be contracted initially through to 30 June 2009, subject to a probationary period.

An annual salary package of circa $45k will be offered, inclusive of superannuation, plus a marketing incentive program.
