Randwick Botany CC has decided that due to low entries and the running of the APEC summit the Snow Wilson Memorial Open Criterium will not be run in 2007.
CycleSport Victoria is pleased to announce the release of the provisional 2007/08 CSV Summer Cycling Fixture.
The season will once again feature famous events such as the Victorian Christmas Carnival Series (December 27 - January 1), the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic (January 2-6), Wangaratta Carnival and Criterium (January 26-27), Phil Anderson Classic (February 16), Australian Madison Championships (March 1), Bendigo Madison & International Criterium weekend (March 7-9), Austral Wheelrace (March 15), plus Victorian Championships across January and February.
This week at Friday Night Winter Track Racing will be the much anticipated “Peter Bundy Cycles Fat-Mans Wheelrace”
Since its conception late last year in a discussion over a beer in the Handle Bar Tavern, the topic of this race has been a fixture of every track cyclist’s conversations. Debate has raged as who would be, by weight, the strongest rider.
This unique handicap is one that bucks the trend of dieticians all around the world. The handicap is by weight, whereby you are rewarded with a better starting position the heavier you are.
The 2006 USPRO criterium champion Hilton Clarke (Navigators Insurance) was not feeling 100 percent in his title defense, as a rotated pelvis sidelined him for the most of July and into August. However, Clarke’s strong performances before that has netted him a contract with Toyota-United for 2008. On top of that, his little brother Jonathan is also signing for the team, after riding in Europe and the US this year.
“Toyota decided to sign me and my younger brother,” said Clarke. When asked if bringing him and his brother together was his idea or the team’s, he said, “It was a bit of both, but the deal for me and him is a great one and I’m really excited!”
Australia’s A With a Disability team enjoyed a successful opening to the IPC World Championships in Bordeaux, France, claiming eight medals and two world records during the opening two days. Victorian Michael Gallagher demolished his opponent in the final of the LC1 men’s 4km individual pursuit to claim gold after smashing his own world record in Sunday’s qualifying round.
