Sulzberger storms his way to a podium finish for Australia!

Tasmanian Wesley Sulzberger has claimed Australia’s first medal at this year’s UCI Road Cycling World Championships with his silver medal ride in the 172 kilometre U23 men’s road race. Sulzberger, 20, sprinted home second behind Slovakian Peter Velits who won the world title in a time of 4h21m22s with Britain’s Jonathan Bellis third.

SOUTH Australia’s Tour Down Under has been elevated to the world stage in a sporting coup.
The major South Australian event has been elevated to ProTour status and will bring more of the world’s top riders to race here.
The announcement in Stuttgart, Germany last night , marked the first time a cycling event outside Europe has been awarded world cycling’s highest status in more than 100 years.

Kupfernagel Cyclocrosses over to the road and takes victory in the Time Trial!

Germany’s Hanka Kupfernagel has taken victory in the women’s time trial over night, adding to her trio of rainbow jerseys in cyclocross. Kupfernagel blitzed the 25.1km field recording an average speed of over 43kph.

Cycling NSW’s Board of management last night (26th September 2007) approved Cycling NSW’s Summer Race calendar.
This summer is proving to be one of their best ever as Sydney will be host to many major events including the:
· World Masters Track Cycling Championships 16 – 21October 2007
· World Track Cycling Cup 30th November to the 2nd December 2007

A cold start to a perfect day with only a slight breeze in the afternoon was enjoyed by the riders for the 2007 Goulburn to Citi Classic.
The peloton started with teams from South Australia.com, FRF-NSWIS, Drapac Porsche, Ord Minnett, Praties Cycle Team, and several NSW teams fighting for the generous teams prize money on offer. With an abundance of interstate teams on a downhill course without wind the race destined to be a team tactic determined race however the race didn’t panned out as expected…

Australian champion Darren Lapthorne has taken out the Rapido-Midlands Tour ahead of junior world champion Leigh Howard and Savings & Loans rider David Pell. Lapthorne out sprinted Howard in the down hill run to the finish to take a well deserved victory.

Victorian Baden Cooke (Unibet.com) won the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen using his sprinting prowess to decisively beat Belgian Andy Cappelle (Landbouwkrediet-Tonissteiner), whom the local crowd wanted to win so badly. Denis Flahaut (Jartazi-Promo Fashion) led in the peloton 21 seconds later.

Call for audience for live TODAY Show weather crosses @ DISC Velodrome!
Cotter Pin is launching it’s coming season of events on Monday, 8th October 2007 by hosting Steve Jacobs and the TODAY Show production team at DISC.
Ryan Bayley and Anna Meares will also be there to show Steve a thing or two about track racing.

Young FRF NSWIS rider Luke Cridland has ridden an amazing race to finish 3rd on the 8th of the Tour de Nouvelle Calédonie. The 8th stage, which traveled from Bourail to the Mission de Nakety, saw large time gaps across the field.

The CycleSkill accreditation must be completed before the Level 1 accreditation can be achieved.
These courses are available to Cycling SA Members only, however non members can purchase a “Ride It” licence for only $65 for adults or $40 for U19’s (you must be 16 years of age to participate in the coaching courses).

AS: Overall I am happy with the season. I made some big improvements, especially in the second half of the year. It was a bit of an up and down year but I think I learnt more about myself this year than I have any other year.
