Cycling Australia will be sending a strong team to this year’s world championships in Stuttgart, headed by Tour de France hero Cadel Evans, 3x world time trial champion Michael Rogers and sprint king Robbie McEwen.

Australia to host 2010 Road Worlds?

When the UCI meets in three weeks time one thing on its agenda is to announce the location of the 2010 World Road Racing Championships, and Melbourne, Australia is shaping up as a likely candidate. The prestigious event is hosted in a non-European nation every seven years, with the last outside the European Union’s borders held at Hamilton, Canada in 2003.

Australia ready for ProTour event

After the first four-years term of the UCI ProTour (2005-2008), the second version of the competition should begin in 2009. It’s been an all-European event so far but the UCI is ready for a change, Alain Rumpf continued. “There is a big interest from Australia and the USA for hosting a ProTour race. Our first priority is the quality and the fight against doping; our second priority is to develop the concept of the ProTour on other continents.
