Lapthorne leads Drapac for Herald Sun Tour

n746475369-1244505-4404Reigning Australian road champion Darren Lapthorne will lead the  Drapac Porsche charge in Sunday’s Jayco Herald Sun Tour.
 
Lapthorne, 24, pulled off a major surprise to win the Australian road title in Ballarat in January, with the Drapac Porsche team producing the best result in the team’s four-year history, with Barcelona Olympian and team leader Robert McLachlan winning the silver medal to secure a historic one-two for the team.

Results: Glenvale Criterium, Round 1, Vic (Crit)

phpThumbAny faint hopes organizers might have had for a gentle introduction  to the crit season were dashed by beautiful blue skies and a turn out of 250 riders to the opening race of the summer season!

A Grade saw the biggest turn out with 75 riders on the start line including CCCC’s superstar Trent Lowe (Discovery Channel), sharpening up after the Elite World Champs before the start of the Herald Sun Tour.

Wohlberg determined to make amends for last year

Eric Wohlberg loves Australia - but don’t dare suggest the Canadian champ is coming here for a holiday

The oldest rider in the field, who boasts four top-10 Tour finishes, watched as his team’s plans disintegrated in gusty crosswinds on the second stage from Shepparton to Bendigo last year.

Only teammate Dominique Rollin joined the decisive break that gained almost 30 minutes on the peloton.

This week Riverland Cycling Club members gathered at Lindsay Point Road, Paringa for a club handicap race. Sixteen riders nominated making it the largest field of riders for the winter road season so far.

Gordon Lawton was off limit, with John Dalziel at 12.5 minutes. Next off, at the 22-minute mark, in the largest grouping of riders, were Peter Weston, Glen O’Brien, Angelo Ylia and John Eshman…
